How do I send files over 5 GB?
Free transfers stop at 5 GB. You can send 4.9 GB, but not 5.1 GB. The difference is small. Splitting the file across two free links is not the solution. If one part is missing, the file is no use to the recipient. We don’t combine the parts.
Email cannot handle anything close to this size. Gmail does not accept attachments over 25 MB, and Outlook does not accept attachments over approximately 20 MB. A 5 GB file is hundreds of times larger than those limits.
| Total size | Free transfer | Best option |
|---|---|---|
| Under 5 GB | Yes, no registration; up to 250 MB stays available for up to 90 days, larger transfers for 7 days | Send as is |
| Over 5 GB, once | No | SendGB Exceed |
| Over 5 GB, frequently | No | SendGB Extra |
| Split into 3 GB + 3 GB | Each part may fit | We don’t combine parts; don’t split |
| Over 1 TB | No | Cannot fit in a single transfer |
The example above totals 8.4 GB: the day’s footage, audio, a photo archive, and editing notes. It exceeds the free transfer limit. It can be sent with a single link.
SendGB Extra vs SendGB Exceed
Both handle files over 5 GB. One is a subscription; the other is a one-time transfer.
| SendGB Extra | SendGB Exceed | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Frequent transfers | Occasional one-time transfers |
| Subscription | Yes, from €29.90 per year | No |
| Single transfer limit | Up to 500 GB, depending on the plan | 50 GB, 200 GB, or 1 TB |
| Price | Annual | 50 GB €2.99, 200 GB €4.99, 1 TB €9.99 |
| Availability | Up to 1 year | Link available for 7 days; code usable once within 1 year |
| File count | 2,500 | 2,500 |
| Recipient | Downloads from the link without creating an account | Downloads from the link without creating an account |
For a day’s work totaling 8 GB, SendGB Exceed’s 50 GB transfer is enough. If every shoot produces files this size, SendGB Extra means you don’t have to pay for each transfer. Storage goes up to 1 TB, depending on the plan.
Why does splitting files cost you more?
Sending 6 GB through two free links may look like a free solution. The recipient cannot tell which part is missing. You have to track the expiration dates, passwords, and download notifications for two links. We don’t join those parts into a single file.
| Split free transfers | One paid link | |
|---|---|---|
| Parts | Two or more links | One link |
| Missing file | Disrupts the work | One download |
| Reassembly | Your responsibility | Not needed |
| 8.4 GB example | Exceeds the free limit | SendGB Exceed 50 GB is enough |
| Frequent use | The same problem every time | SendGB Extra |
The same approach applies to 10 GB and 20 GB. Don’t set up four separate 5 GB free transfers. The Files Over 10 GB page covers the next threshold.
There is also a file count limit
A folder under 5 GB containing 2,000 small files also exceeds the free transfer limit. The file count limit is 500 for free transfers and 2,500 for SendGB Extra and SendGB Exceed. File size and file count are separate limits. If either is exceeded, the transfer stops.
| What you’re sending | Main limit | Suitable option |
|---|---|---|
| One 8 GB video | Size | SendGB Exceed 50 GB |
| 4 GB but 2,500 photos | File count | SendGB Extra or SendGB Exceed, 2,500 |
| 8 GB every week | Frequency | SendGB Extra |
| One 600 GB file | SendGB Extra’s transfer limit | SendGB Exceed 1 TB |
| Over 1 TB | Single transfer limit | Cannot fit |
Transfers are sent through your browser. There is no desktop app or email plugin. If you enter your email address, you receive one notification when the download starts. This does not confirm that the entire file was downloaded. Don’t split a file over 5 GB.
How to send
- 1
Choose a single transfer
Don’t try to fit a file over 5 GB into a free transfer. Choose SendGB Extra if you send frequently or SendGB Exceed if you only need one transfer. Don’t split the file in two.
- 2
Send the link
Share a single link. Send the password separately from the link. If you enter your email address, you receive one notification when the download starts.
- 3
The recipient downloads
The recipient downloads from the link and does not create an account. Free transfers up to 250 MB stay available for up to 90 days. Free transfers over 250 MB and SendGB Exceed transfers stay available for 7 days. SendGB Extra keeps files for up to 1 year.
What happens to your file?
- Files are not split or recompressed.
- Both 8 GB and 50 GB can be sent with a single link. The limit depends on the plan.
- No account is needed to download.
- If you enter your email address, you receive one notification when the download starts.
What we don’t do
- Free transfers are limited to 5 GB and 500 files.
- We don’t combine uploads sent in parts.
- Anything over 1 TB cannot fit in a single transfer.
- A download notification does not confirm that the entire file was downloaded.
