Send Large Files on Messenger Without Compression

To send large files on Messenger, share a link. Videos sent in chat are compressed. Attachments also run into size limits. You can’t send a promo video, catalog, and cover image together through chat. There’s no app to install inside Messenger. The recipient downloads from the link and does not create an account.

Messenger chats aren’t for large file delivery

Chat is fast. File transfers have limits. Video is compressed. Attachments run into size limits. You can’t send a 180 MB video and a 64 MB catalog in one message. Even if they go through, the files don’t arrive in their original form.

The file doesn’t stay in the chat. The retention period applies to the link you share. For this free example, that period is 7 days.

The example above includes a promo video, catalog, cover image, pricing, and a note.

No account needed to download

You’re on Messenger. The recipient may be there too. To download from the link, the recipient does not need a Facebook or SendGB account.

Instagram DM is covered in the Instagram file sharing guide. Catalogs are covered in the PDF transfer guide.

Everyone in the group sees the message

Everyone in the group can see a link shared there. Don’t include the password in the same message. For a private delivery, send the link only to the intended recipient.

260 MB isn’t the Messenger file size limit

Files of this size can be sent for free. The Messenger file size limit isn’t our limit. No registration is required for up to 5 GB.

How to send

  1. 1

    Add the files

Add the promo video and catalog to the upload area. Don’t use Messenger’s video-sending option. Sending 260 MB is free.

  2. 2

Paste the link into the chat

Paste the link into a Messenger message. Don’t use the paperclip icon. Don’t put the password below the link in the same chat.

  3. 3

    The recipient downloads

The recipient does not need a Facebook or SendGB account to download from the link. A browser is enough. The link stays available for 7 days. Free transfers up to 250 MB stay available for up to 90 days.

What happens to your file?

  • The promo video isn’t compressed.
  • The catalog and pricing share one link.
  • The file doesn’t stay in the Messenger chat.
  • If you entered your email address, you receive one notification when downloading starts.

What we don’t do

  • There’s no SendGB app or bot for Messenger.
  • We don’t repair compressed video in the chat.
  • We don’t increase the Messenger attachment size limit.
  • A download notification doesn’t mean the promo video was watched.

Frequently asked questions

Does Messenger send video without compression?

No. A file sent as video in chat is compressed. The 180 MB promo video reaches the recipient as a smaller file. That copy isn’t suitable for editing or client delivery.

Will sending it as an attachment help?

Attachments also run into size limits. The sample package, including the catalog and video, is 260 MB. You can’t send it as one package in chat. The Messenger file size limit may change. Use a link.

Do recipients need a Facebook account?

You share the link in your Messenger chat. The recipient does not need a Facebook or SendGB account to download from the link. A browser is enough.

Is there an app or bot?

No. There’s no transfer tool to install inside Messenger. You paste the link yourself.

Can everyone in a group chat see the link?

Everyone in the chat where you share the link can see it. Everyone in the group can download. Set a password for an unreleased promo video. Don’t include the password in the group message.

Can recipients open the catalog?

The PDF can be opened. The Excel file doesn’t open as a table on the page. The video doesn’t play from start to finish on the page. Files download unchanged.

Is this the same as Instagram DM?

Both compress video. Instagram is for publishing content; Messenger is for chatting. On either platform, you share the original file with a link. Instagram is covered on a separate page.

Is sending 260 MB free?

Yes. No registration is required for up to 5 GB. The link stays available for 7 days. The compressed copy in the chat stays in Messenger independently of that period.

Will I get a download notification?

If you entered your email address, you receive a download notification. With email delivery, you are notified once per recipient. With link delivery, you are notified once per transfer. This notification doesn’t appear in Messenger notifications. A download notification doesn’t confirm that the promo video was watched.

Is WhatsApp a better option?

WhatsApp also compresses video. The limit for sending files as documents is about 2 GB. The files in the 260 MB package are sent separately in either chat. With a link, you share one address on either platform.

Send a download link, not a Messenger attachment

A 260 MB promo package gets compressed or hits the size limit in chat. You can share it with a link without registering.
