How to send large files on LinkedIn
Messages are for introductions. They fall short when you need to share a portfolio on LinkedIn. LinkedIn message attachments have a low size limit. A 95 MB work sample exceeds that limit. Uploading to a post shares the file with your network and compresses the image.
Send the link in a private message. The file is available on the download page.
| Method | 95 MB portfolio |
|---|---|
| Message attachment | Exceeds the size limit |
| Public post | Compressed and made public |
| LinkedIn app | None |
| Shared drive | Account and ongoing permissions |
| Link in a message | Stays private, no account required |
The example above includes a portfolio, work samples, a cover image, a resume, and a note.
Public posts vs. private delivery
A post is for a preview image, not the source file for your work. A ZIP cannot be opened there. The client cannot download the package. Send the link only to the intended recipient.
| Post | Private link | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can see it | Your network or everyone | Anyone with the link |
| Quality | Images are compressed | Unchanged |
| ZIP | Not available | Included in the same transfer; we do not open it |
| Availability | Stays in the post | 90 days up to 250 MB, 7 days above that |
| Password | Do not post publicly | Send separately |
If you are sending a proposal separately, see the guide to sending proposals. For the PDF itself, see the guide to sending PDFs.
Keep the password out of the same message
If the link and password are in the same message, anyone who sees both can open the file. Send the password separately from the link. A public comment is not the place for it.
| Location | Result |
|---|---|
| Private message | The intended recipient sees it |
| Post | Your network sees it |
| Password in the same message | The file can be unlocked |
| Password sent separately | The link alone is not enough |
| We access your account | No |
Can I send 95 MB without registering?
A file this size is free to send. It stays available for up to 90 days. If you want the file to remain accessible throughout the interview process, SendGB Extra keeps files for up to 1 year. Annual pricing starts at €29.90. It is not required for a single portfolio.
| Total | LinkedIn message | SendGB |
|---|---|---|
| Short resume | May go through | A link also works |
| 95 MB sample | Cannot be sent | Free |
| Large work folder | Cannot be sent | Free up to 5 GB |
| Over 5 GB | Cannot be sent | SendGB Extra or SendGB Exceed |
| Uploading to a post | Not file delivery | Not needed |
Do not attach the file to LinkedIn. Send the link.
How to send
- 1
Add your portfolio
Add your work samples to the upload box. Do not upload them to a LinkedIn post. Sending 95 MB is free.
- 2
Paste the link into your message
Paste the link into your LinkedIn message. Do not attach the file to the message. Do not put the password in a public post.
- 3
The recipient downloads
The recipient does not need a LinkedIn account to download the file. A browser is all they need. The link stays available for up to 90 days. The file is not compressed.
What happens to your file?
- Your portfolio and work samples are not compressed.
- Your file is not made public in a LinkedIn post.
- Your resume and work samples share one link.
- If you provided your email address, you receive one notification when the download starts.
What we don’t do
- We do not access your LinkedIn account or publish posts.
- We do not increase the size limit for message attachments.
- Anyone who sees the link in a public post can download the file.
- A download notification does not mean you have been hired.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send large files in a LinkedIn message?
No. Messages are for short text and small attachments. A 62 MB portfolio exceeds the attachment size limit. LinkedIn may change this limit. Do not try to attach the file to your message.
Does sharing a file in a post count as delivery?
No. A post is visible to everyone or your network. Images are also compressed. A file intended for a client or employer does not belong there. Put the link in a private message.
Do you access my LinkedIn account?
No. We do not publish posts or send messages. There is no app that connects to LinkedIn.
Does the recipient need a LinkedIn account?
You can send them the link through LinkedIn. The recipient does not need a LinkedIn or SendGB account to download the file. A browser is all they need.
Can PDF and ZIP files be opened?
A PDF can be opened. A resume can also be opened if it is a PDF. We do not open the ZIP containing work samples. We do not unpack the archive.
Should I put the password in a public post?
No. Anyone who sees the link can download. Password-protect your private portfolio. Do not put the password in a post or public comment.
Is sending 95 MB free?
Yes. No registration is required for transfers up to 5 GB. This example is under 250 MB, so it stays available for up to 90 days. Free transfers over 250 MB stay available for 7 days. If the interview process will take longer and the file needs to stay available for 1 year, consider SendGB Extra. It is not required for 95 MB.
Does a download notification mean my application has been reviewed?
No. If you provided your email address, you receive one notification when the download starts. It does not confirm that the file was read or liked, or that you were hired.
Can I send a proposal through LinkedIn this way?
Yes. Pricing and specifications are not attached to the message. Send a link instead. The rules for proposals are covered on a separate page. We do not write your pricing.
How do I keep everyone in my network from seeing the file?
Do not put the file in a post. Send the link only to the intended recipient. Send the password separately from the link.
Send a download link, not a LinkedIn attachment
A 95 MB portfolio is too large for a message attachment. Send it with a link without registering. A public post is not a substitute for this delivery.
