What is CDN?

Content Delivery Network (CDN) providers offer access to a network of servers, as well as services that help improve website performance, making it easier to deliver content efficiently to websites. CDN services are based on geographically distributed points of presence, known as PoPs, which help direct the delivery of digital content from an origin server to one that is as close as possible to the viewing user. Organizations use CDN services such as web page caching, request routing, and server load balancing to reduce loading times and improve website performance. CDN services are often used by organizations that heavily depend on reliable content delivery. Some of these include online video streaming providers and e-commerce companies, as both of these phenomena are significantly affected by poor network performance. CDN services are often used in conjunction with hosting services to optimize the speed of content delivery, although some CDN services may also offer hosting separately from their CDN services. Some content management systems offer pre-integrated integrations with CDN services to help users improve website performance.
